Welcome
Ann McCrea is an artist and teacher who has found creativity is a common part of our humanity. For nearly 30 years, she has taught more than 15,000 children in schools, libraries and her studio classes.
Nearly 30 years ago, Ann founded Kids•Art, based in her Newburyport studio. She has found that kids’ creativity flourishes in the co-operative spirit that comes from making art together. Ann is contagiously enthusiastic, sharing her love of animals, diverse cultures and beautiful design in everyday objects with the children she teaches. — Sally and Bob McCraven
CLAY•WORKS are programs for schools and libraries based on the power of storytelling to inspire children to sculpt animal characters from terra cotta clay. For more than 20 years, Ann has engaged children in programs designed to enliven reading themes and complement school curriculum. Inspired by Ann’s telling of her story, “Sophia the Spotted Turtle”, intrigued by her sculpting and informed by her teaching, kids then sculpted their own outstanding turtles and salamanders which they were proud of. – Lisa Hutchings, Teacher Naturalist, Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport, MA
Ann’s assemblages and collages combine vibrant color and varied textures to explore ancient cultures, the arts, family and nature. Adult classes in collage, looking at its history, contemporary examples and providing hands on experience with found materials.
Ann McCrea’s work has been displayed at galleries in New England, including the McCoy Gallery, the Robert Lehman Art Center, The Center for the Arts at the Newburyport Firehouse, the Newburyport Art Association, Maudslay State Park and the Carl Youngman Gallery. She hosts annual open studios and sales in her Newburyport Massachusetts studio. |
